4 Replacement Window Myths Every Saint Louis Homeowner Should Know About
Don’t Believe Everything You Hear About Windows…
There Are A LOT Of Myths Surrounding The Industry.
We would all like to believe the cheap product is just as good as the one that costs 35% – 50% more. Most of the time, though, you get exactly what you pay for. This is certainly true of replacement windows.
Here are a few of the biggest myths floating around the Saint Louis area. Many of them are spread by window installers just trying to make a sale, without giving you all the facts.
#1: Triple Pane Only Works Well In Cold Climates
One of the most common myths about triple pane windows is they are only good for insulating your home in the wintertime. This simply isn’t true.
As everyone who lives in Saint Louis knows, our winters are harsh, but our summers are worse! Why invest in a window that only reduces energy bills in the winter?
The short answer is: They do both, and they do it very well. Triple pane windows perform just as well at keeping cool air inside your home, as they do at keeping out the cold in the winter.
#2: Prices That Are Just TOO Low To be True
We’ve all seen the ads, offering replacement windows for $189. If you think this sounds too good to be true, you would be 100% correct. The price you end up paying will be a lot more than that.
Before signing a contract or even scheduling a consultation with an installer like that, do a little research. You should read a few reviews and even look at the fine print of the deal, if you can. Chances are, that low, low price you were quoted did not include everything a replacement window entails.
What we mean by this is they are quoting you a price that maybe includes the panes but not the frame or vice versa, and it almost certainly does not include labor. Whatever the case may be, you are not walking away from that deal paying the price you thought. What’s worse is they probably aren’t very good windows to begin with!
#3: Triple Pane Isn’t Any Better Than Double Pane
This one is super ubiquitous among installers, but that doesn’t make it any more accurate. Triple pane windows do, in fact, provide a much greater degree of insulation than double pane windows.
One reason so many installers say they aren’t much better is because they are not qualified to install them. Triple pane windows are a little trickier to work with, and many installers aren’t up to snuff.
The other reason a lot of contractors will scoff at triple pane windows is because they are trying to make a sale, and they know the higher price point can rub people the wrong way. At XteriorPRO, we prefer to do things honestly. We know triple pane windows cost a little more, but we also know they’re better.
#4: Lifetime Warranties Mean LIFETIME Warranties
While lifetime warranties seem self-explanatory, they can be misleading. Every company has a different definition of “lifetime” warranty, with some being as short as 5 years. Most aren’t viable for longer than 20 years.
Ideally, particularly if you invested in triple pane, you won’t have to use your warranty ever. Nonetheless, you need to always read the fine print, so you know exactly what your warranty does and does not cover. You might be surprised….
Why We’re Different
We operate on facts and honesty, and that’s what we intend to give you if you call us for a consultation. Whatever price we quote is the price you pay. We’ll never tell you an inferior product is just as good when it isn’t, and we’ll never try to sell you something we don’t think you need.
