GAF Roofing

GAF Lifetime Roofing System:
The Total Package Of Beauty, Durability & Efficiency

It’s About More Than Nice-Looking Shingles.
It’s The Layers Underneath That Matter.

A quality roof is much more than nice-looking shingles. It’s a system of components working together to protect your home, reduce your utility costs, and withstand the harsh elements.

That’s why we install GAF’s Golden Pledge roofing system in St. Louis and St. Charles Counties. To be considered Golden Pledge-level, a roof must include not just 100% GAF materials, but their highest-end materials. This provides you with a roof that is unrivaled in durability, performance, and energy efficiency.

The Components Of A GAF Roof

The key to GAF roofing’s unequaled capabilities is layers upon layers of cutting-edge materials. When developing their roofing, GAF considered every aspect—from the shingles to the decking to the weather barriers. The result is pure performance… even in the places you can’t see.

Let’s explore the components of a GAF roof…

Leak Barrier

Stop Leaks In Their Tracks

Leaks usually happen around vulnerable areas of the roof such as valleys, eaves, chimneys, and skylights as the result of wind-driven rain, overflowing gutters, and ice-dam formations. Leak barriers help stop leaks to prevent water from saturating your roof’s deck and causing rot.

Though you can’t see your leak barrier once it’s installed, don’t underestimate its importance. Your leak barrier not only helps prevent costly repairs, but also protects from water damage and staining to your ceiling and walls.

GAF’s WeatherWatch® leak barrier takes leak protection a step further than competing products. It’s reinforced with fiberglass to prevent buckling and wrinkling. It self-seals around nails to create a waterproof, gap-free barrier. And it’s made with a versatile high-temperature compound that works perfectly with asphalt roofing.

Roof Deck Protection

Shields From Moisture Infiltration

Roof deck protection is the second moisture-resistant barrier on a GAF roof. Like leak barriers, roof deck protection helps prevent wind-driven rain from infiltrating your roofing system and causing damage to your roof deck.

Many roofing systems utilize conventional organic felts for roof deck protection. The problem with using organic felts is that they can become brittle and deteriorate over time. GAF has developed multiple lines of roof deck protection made from stout, fiberglass-reinforced synthetic felt that protects longer and will not compromise your roofing system the way organic felts can.

We install Tiger Paw™, GAF’s strongest underlayment. Tiger Paw is a premium, UV-stabilized polypropylene product that helps remove nearly twice as much damaging moisture from your roof deck as other leading synthetic non-breathable underlayments. It also does not rot, disintegrate, or become brittle like conventional felts. Simply put, Tiger Paw delivers pure protection—24/7/365.

Starter Strip Shingles

Keeps Your Shingles On “Lockdown”

Starter strip shingles are extremely important to the integrity of your roof’s “actual” shingles… yet they tend to be one of the areas where contractors cut corners the most.

For example, some roofers in the St. Louis metro area use cut-up 3-tab strip shingles as the “starter course” on your roof. These are awful substitutes for real starter shingles. Since they’re manually cut on site, they can create jagged and unsightly eave edges. And the adhesion properties are not only weaker, but also in the incorrect position since the 3-tab shingle is cut up. This makes your shingles more susceptible to blowing off in high winds.

GAF has developed special precut Pro-Start™ and WeatherBlocker™ Starter Strip Shingles that come with factory-applied Dura Grip™ adhesive. GAF’s Starter Strip Shingles create a neater appearance and lock your shingles in place to help prevent shingle blow-off in strong winds. The result? Better looks and performance out of your roof.

Lifetime Shingles

Marrying “Beauty” With “Brawn”

Here’s the truth: Beautiful shingles are easy to find. Even your local Home Depot has a ton of great-looking shingles lining their shelves.

But not all beautiful shingles are strong enough to retain their looks when harsh weather hits. That’s why durability is key. A durable shingle will retain its looks and performance over time; a flimsy shingle will not.

GAF specializes in manufacturing shingles that combine gorgeous looks and unadulterated strength. GAF performs 4,375 quality checks during the manufacturing of its Advanced Protection® Shingle and subjects them to 185 separate strength, longevity, and weather-resistance tests. Certain styles of GAF shingles can also reduce your cooling bills substantially.

Bottom line: GAF shingles are beautiful … and are built to stay that way. Visit our Shingle Options page to find the perfect look for your home.

Attic Ventilation

Your Roof’s Unsung Hero

A well-ventilated roof helps remove excess heat and moisture to protect your roof from premature deterioration. It can also lower heating and cooling costs, improve interior comfort, and increase the lifespan of your shingles.

GAF knows that attic ventilation is one of the most important aspects of a roof. That’s why they have the most comprehensive and cutting-edge ventilation solutions in the country.

For example, GAF’s Cobra® IntakePro™ is an innovative rooftop intake ventilation system that leaves your fascia and soffits untouched during installation. Its tapered, shingle-over design blends in seamlessly with the look of your roof, while its crush-resistant properties resist wind-driven rain, snow, and ice-dam infiltration.

Another excellent GAF ventilation solution is the Cobra® Snow Country™ ridge vent. It allows heat and condensation to escape at the ridge and comes with a special Snow Guard™ filter to prevent snow infiltration when harsh winter weather hits.

Bottom line: Different roofs require different ventilation systems. GAF has a solution for every roof to maximize proper airflow and keep your attic dry.

Hip & Ridge Cap Shingles

Bring A Bit Of Drama To Your Roof

Hip and ridge cap shingles have a twofold purpose: 1) defend against leaks at the hips and ridges and 2) add beautiful depth and dimension to your roof.

The problem? Many roofers in the St. Louis metro area use 3-tab shingles as hip and ridge shingles. Since 3-tab shingles are inflexible, they can crack when the roofer tries to stretch them over hips and ridges. They also lack the proper adhesion properties, so they can blow off in high winds.

GAF Timbertex® Hip and Ridge Cap Shingles are built for enduring looks and lasting performance. They are secured with special Dura Grip™ adhesive, coated with StainGuard® protection to prevent algae growth, and factory-designed to perfectly match the rest of your roof. They also resist hail, include a beautiful raised profile, and have a double-layer design that’s up to 195% thicker than 3-tab shingles. They are the perfect complement to high-quality architectural shingles.

Good Housekeeping Seal Of Approval

Good Housekeeping magazine has awarded over 50 of GAF’s roofing products with the coveted Seal Of Approval. Products with the Seal of Approval are guaranteed by Good Housekeeping for two years after they’re sold. If the product is defective within that time, Good Housekeeping will A) refund the purchase price or $2,000 (whichever is less) or B) repair/replace the product.

Good Housekeeping has awarded GAF products with the Seal Of Approval for the following reasons:

  1. Proven Performance
  2. Greater Energy Savings
  3. High-End Design
  4. Total Versatility

Very few roofing products are awarded the Good Housekeeping Seal Of Approval. Since GAF has over FIFTY products with the Seal Of Approval, it shows you the kind of quality to expect with a GAF roof over your head.

A GAF-Certified Green Contractor

We’re a member of GAF’s Certified Green Roofer™ Program. To become certified, contractors must pass a Sustainability Assessment, make a firm commitment to recycling shingles, and be members of the local U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Instead of occupying a landfill, shingles we remove are ground up and formed into granules used to make roads. This also provides you peace of mind that your old shingles are going to good use.

The following video from KARE Channel 11 in Minnesota covers a Certified Green Roofer in the Minneapolis area. Like this roofer, we follow the same Certified Green Roofer protocols to help keep our community clean and green.
